Thailand has about 77 National Parks, 24 Marine Parks and 48 Wildlife Sanctuaries, making the kingdom a great place for guided hikes and longer treks into the rugged jungle terrain of the protected areas.

In central Thailand the Khao Yai National Park offers excellent trekking and wildlife observation opportunities. It is the oldest and largest National Park in Thailand and was declared a world Heritage Site by the UNESCO in 2005. The Khao Yai National Park has an excellent marked trail network, from short forest hikes to guided tours deep into the jungle.
